Majorca

Majorca is an enchanting Spanish island situated in the Balearic archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. The northern part consists mainly of extensive coastal cliffs known as the Serra de Tramuntana, which protect the island from north winds. Vast plains, which occupies the central part, are covered with olive, orange and almond groves. While the southern part is the vast sandy beaches famous for their watering places and sea salt mines, which every year are visited by tourists from around the world.

The capital of Majorca, Palma (picture above) is a full of life, bustling city with famous cathedral called Sa Seu. This is the city that never sleeps, the music from taverns and nightclubs can be heard till dawn. Perhaps that is why young people visit this place so willingly. However, if you are looking for breathing space Majorca is a perfect place to rest. Not for nothing the island is called Lilla de la Calma, or the island of calm. You can go for hiking, along the Serra de Traumata and meet a wild, deserted cove, and traversing the plains you can delve into the fragrant citrus groves. If you are tired of sun shining all the time, you can visit caves where pirates once lived. The largest and most famous, cave called the Cave of the Dragon hides underwater lake and numerous rock formations. Majorca is also well known for the artificial production of pearls, factories situated on the island have gained fame in the production of these trinkets around the world.
